The EPUB file format is an open standard for e-books and other digital publications. It is widely used for distributing digital books, magazines, newspapers, and other electronic publications. Developed by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) and supported by various e-book readers, EPUB is the most commonly used digital book format in the world.

The EPUB format is based on OpenXML and HTML and can be read on both desktop computers and mobile devices. It is capable of incorporating media files, images, XHTML, CSS, cover images, text documents, indexing and navigation features. The format is also designed to ensure that users can easily re-size text to their viewing preferences without compromising the original layout.

The PDB (Protein Data Bank) file format is used to store 3-dimensional structural data of biological molecules, such as proteins and nucleic acids, which can be visualized with chemical visualization programs. The PDB file contains information about the atom's coordinates, the residue name and sequence number, the secondary structure information, and numbers and names of hetero-atoms.

The PDB files are faithfully adopted to the widely used mmCIF (macromolecular Crystallographic Information File) syntax and are loosely associated with the following formats: mdl (Mol), mol2 (Tripos), sdf (Sparta), and cif (Cambridge).
