The OpenDocument Text (ODT) file format is an open standard for text documents. It is based on the XML file format and is the default file format of LibreOffice and Apache OpenOffice. ODT files are capable of storing plain text, as well as basic formatting and styling information, including fonts, font sizes, bold, italic, underlining, lists, tables and many other features. ODT files can be easily opened with any software that supports the ODT file type. They are widely used in many business scenarios and can be converted to other text-based file formats, such as PDF, DOCX and HTML. They can also be shared easily over email or cloud storage. | DOCX is an XML-based document format used primarily with Microsoft Word. It is the default file type for versions of Word from 2007 onwards, replacing the older DOC format used in earlier versions. It is a zipped, compressed file that contains a collection of XML files, which contain the text, formatting, images, charts and other miscellaneous parts of the document. The DOCX extension indicates that all files within the archive are encoded in the UTF-8 character set. Because it is open and non-proprietary, some open-source applications have been developed to read and convert DOCX files into other file formats such as PDF. However, true editing of DOCX files requires access to some form of MS Office suite. |
